PROJECTS

APARTAMENTS IN MARBELLA.

PROJECT SELECTION

Situated atop of a mountain with breathtaking views of the sea, this residential community is conceived to reflect old white Andalusian towns. Its typical narrow streets create shade where natives and visitors can take refuge from the strong prevailing heat all year round.
Consequently, the first decision was to get rid of road traffic by creating 3 underground roadways connecting each one of the blocks.
The design of this projects adapts to the strong typography, like small pieces that follow the natural curves of the land, while enabling direct views of the sea from all the homes.
The plant system using local aromatic plants enabled us to improve isolating the homes without the need of maintenance.
Just as traditional white Southern towns, the main squares are the central structural and social axis of the town - and here, the pools and gardens are located in the center of the complex as well.

SINGLE HOUSE IN TOLEDO.

Single-family home situated in the old quarter of Toledo, a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. This project aimed at combining the strong historical character of the city with an avant-garde architecture adapted to today's needs.
The home is a perfect example of a Toledo-style patio home, where all the rooms open up onto the patio, thus allowing the strong Manchego sun to warmly penetrate inside.
The kitchen and large living room are located on the top floor, where stunning views over the cliff of the Tagus River can be truly enjoyed.
The bedrooms are located on the bottom floor, protected from the sun by the wood lattice panels, just like the Arabs did when they were lived in these lands.

This high school is situated on one of the most conflictive areas of Spain since the basis of the design was anti-vandalism.
The project consisted of 4 different interconnecting constructions.
The main construction, supported by large elliptic pillars, houses the classrooms,
which are oriented towards the north to avoid the strong southern sun of Spain.
On the north side of the classroom building, the construction, which shades the classrooms, houses the dining hall and laboratories. These two edifices are connected by narrow transversal patios allowing direct light to pass through.
The same game of indirect light takes place in the hallways, where a zigzag roof allows light to enter as well as cross ventilation.
The sports courts and sports facilities are located to the south of the classroom building.

TORREVIEJA HIGH SCHOOL.

One-hundred and ten government sponsored homes and business premises.
Since we were dealing with homes, the housing block had to respond to the best possible conditions in terms of natural lighting and ventilation while maintaining a harmonious distribution and precise sizing.
Our project aimed for hybrid building, with low connecting edifices, creating open areas where business premises and offices could be located, and two high constructions, one is the form of a tower and the other an apartment block.
These two volumes efficiently resolved the supposedly impacting image of the new growing urban border of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

HOMES & BUISNESS, VITORIA

Single-family home enclaved in one of the most exclusive areas of Madrid.
Due to the client's needs for privacy, we recreated the idea of a patio home. In this case and due to the home's location,  it is a much more modern design, where all the rooms open up onto the patio - with the finishing touch of a swimming pool.

SINGLE HOUSE IN MADRID

CUENCA PRIMARY SCHOOL

This project was conceived in two phases.
The old school building still in use and located on the same plot where the project was being developed, conditioned construction until we were able to demolish it.
The school is accessed through the main floor, where the lower grade classrooms are located. They form a comb system, in which the children's classrooms alternate with the small patios.
A wedge shaped patio is accessed  through the other side of the main hall. Here there is wedge-shaped patio, with U-shaped classrooms on top of it, which lead to large porches.
A ramp system connects phase 1 and 2, where the sports courts and sports facilities are located. These facilities are adapted and equipped with solar plaques for greater energy efficiency.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

CAR DEALER & GARAGE IN OURENSE

We designed the Partial plan, consisting in vacation and weekend homes in one of the vacation areas of northern Spain over the Pontevedra inlet.
We designed the central area like a ring, with a large square in the middle housing the water sector.
The government sponsored apartments are located the farthest from the coast as well as the infrastructures needed to develop said plan.
The bottom portion of the plot is reserved for single-family homes, which are laid out like fingers which, starting from the central ring, spread out towards the park situated on the sea shore.
Small private roads with limited traffic provide access to each one of the homes, which distances traffic and parking from the coast as much as possible.

PARTIAL PLAN OF DORRÓN, SAN XENXO. HOMES AND INSTALLATIONS

At the Concorso Internazionale per recupero del centro antico di Salerno, we were awarded the first ex aequo prize together with Kazuyo Sejima.
The idea of the contest was to recover the historical quarter of Salerno, which has been completely abandoned since it is hard to access.
We proposed a series of escalators connecting different historical buildings.
Rehabilitating the buildings in the historical quarter also formed part of the contest and we presented a different solution for each one of them.

The building is conceived as an important advertisement in itself.
The main sales building closes with polycarbonate pieces finished with Alocubond steal. Consequently, at night the building looks like a giant flashlight.
Due to the different levels of the land, the main hall overflows with light, where the different brands of vehicles are sold. On the side of the building, there is a larger volume housing the bodywork workshops, which are naturally ventilated and lit due to their location.
